Immigration

The following was passed along by a friend of mine.

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear
on TV.

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing
the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own borders, might make it
harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking
behind these protests.

Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the
beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest
(except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide
other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um, except
for well, you know. And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing
you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language
so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America ....if you agree, pass it on (in English). Share it if you see the value of it as a good
simile. If not blow it off along with your future Social Security funds.

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government
targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia and her Queen at a special meeting
with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave
the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state, and its laws were made by parliament. "If
those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not
for you", he said on national television.

"I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia: one the
Australian law and another the Islamic law, that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent
courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country, which practices
it, perhaps, then, that's a better option", Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly
be asked to move to the other country. Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did
not want to accept local values should "clear off. Basically people who don't want to be Australians, and who
don't want ! to live by Australian values and understand them, well then, they can basically clear off", he said.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the
nation's mosques Quote: "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation
worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we
have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians."

"However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the 'politically correct' crowd began complaining
about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a
grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia."

"However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here,
need to understand."

"This idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national
identity. As Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle."

"This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and
women who have sought freedom"

"We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!"

"Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right; wing, political push, but a fact, because
Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is
ertainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider
another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture."

"We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony
and peaceful enjoyment with us."

"If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like " A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to
another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care
how you did things where you came from. By all means, keep your culture, but do not force it on others.

"This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But
once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way
of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'."

"If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the
country YOU accepted."

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and
voting the same truths!!

Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below)
or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the
editor that should have been published but with your help it will get published via cyberspace!

New Immigrants
From: "David LaBonte"

My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed.
So, I decided to " print" it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined.

Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:

So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one,
suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the
same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not
willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of
Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be
documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold
the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their
new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power
to help their children assimilate into one culture.

Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the
skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of their children
came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over
from Germany, Italy, France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what
country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan.
They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France< B>, no one in those
villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France
saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would
have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been
a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to
be a n American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are in 2006 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to
achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of
being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that
the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work
and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching
for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign
country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are
voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.
